Crematorium and the Camp's First Gas Chamber

The chimney is reconstructed, and appears not to connect to the building in any way. The gas chamber (supposedly) operated from 1941 to 1942, during which time some 60,000 people were killed therein; it was then converted into an air-raid shelter for the use of the SS.

There is much controversy regarding the history of this building.
