Bullet Holes in Treasury Statue   Al Khazneh

The tomb/temple got its popular name from the Bedouin belief that pirates hid ancient pharoanic treasures in the tholos (giant stone urn) which stands in the center of the second level (above this statue). In an attempt to release the treasure (and/or have some fun with target practice), Bedouins periodically fired at the structure.

This figure may be the fertility goddess of Petra, El-Uzza (associated with the Egyptian goddess Isis).
